St. Paul’s Shrine, Singamparai.
About 200 years ago, a small chapel for St. Paul has been constructed in a village called ‘Singamparai’, which is located just near by the banks of river ‘Thamiraparani’. Earlier it was a hut like chapel. Later with the blessings of St. Paul, it has been established to the current form of our church. From the top view, the church will look like a Cross.
Instead of water-cement combination, our ancestors used palm tree juice (Sweet toddy drawn in a pot rubbed with lime inside to prevent fermentation.) along with lime powder to build our church. They started the establishment by the year of 1911 and ended it by 1928. Later during the period of Rev. Fr. Arulappar, the church got renovated once again to accommodate more devotees.
It is very common to find the churches of ‘St. Paul & St. Peter’ together, whereas the church of ‘St. Paul’ alone is very rare. Our church of St. Paul is one among such.
